Jean Pettigrew Whelan was born in Palo Alto, CA. She earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004.
Speaking of her work, Whelan says that she “Seeks to achieve dialogue and balance between abstraction and realism no matter the medium while referencing and pondering the mystery that underlies all reality.” She enjoys “playing with and pushing the limits of paint and materials.”
